Suntracer descends from mares bred by such illustrious stables as Bieber-Jacobs, Greentree Stud, North Ridge Farm and Meadowbrook Farms. Out of the multiple stakes-winning Prized mare Taxable Deduction who won stakes on the turf from one mile to  1 1/8 miles over three years of racing, Suntracer’s style of running mirrors that of Kitten Joy, displaying tremendous acceleration in the stretch and it earned him over $800,000.

  • A May foal bred and raced by the highly successful Team Block of Illinois and trained by Chris Block, Suntracer ran four times late in his 2-year-old year, winning a maiden special weight at the Fair Grounds and finishing third in allowance company. At three, he made nine starts from February through November, winning in allowance company at Gulfstream and Keeneland before taking on stakes competition. Three times second including the Grade 2 American Derby and Grade 3 Hawthorne Derby, the late closer won the Woodchopper Stakes at the Fair Grounds in November. Trailing the field after six furlongs, Suntracer switched out for clear sailing at the top of the long Fair Grounds stretch,  “inhaling his foes with a jaw-dropping turn of foot to win clear and handily.”

  • In his first start at 4, Suntracer finished fourth in the Col. E.R. Bradley H.-G3 despite suffering a scratched cornea from debris during the race and stepping on screw. Fitted with an eye protecting cup, Block felt Suntracer’s confidence was shaken, but by mid-year Block was quoted “I see some confidence back in (Suntracer) in the morning.” Finishing second in the Black Tie Affair and third in the Stars and Stripes S.-G3 at Arlington, Suntracer would go on to win the Illinois Owners Stakes at Arlington (defeating Mr. Mischief) and Hawthorne’s Robert F. • A.P. Indy – Well Chosen, by Deputy Minister

  • An iron horse, Telling was never off the board in his first eight starts, he competed from ages three to seven, and was a winner on dirt and turf. He won or placed in graded stakes events at Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Arlington Park and Saratoga and is a two-time winner of the prestigious Sword Dancer Invitational Stakes (G1) for owners Alex and JoAnn Lieblong. This tough and classy campaigner finished on the board in an incredible 14 races, eight of them stakes races and retired sound with earnings of $848,409.

  • By Horse of the Year Champion and sire of sires A.P. Indy, Telling is produced from the Grade 1-winning mare Well Chosen, an earner of more than $500,000 for Michael Tabor and Mrs. John Magnier. Well Chosen won the Ashland Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, and is by leading broodmare sire Deputy Minister, from a family rich in black-type. Well Chosen produced three black-type horses from three foals to race; Telling’s second dam, Chosen Lady, is a sister to Academy Award. • Telling, who attracted a strong book of mares in 2012 despite his arrival to stud late in the season, looks every bit the part of a future leading sire. His highly anticipated first foals arrived in 2013. His first crop now three include winners Kisskiss Telltell, Peggy N Judy, Slapjack and Telling Tony. With 58% starters and 36% winners from starters in his first crop, Telling’s second and larger crop are two-year-olds of 2016.

He swept past the pacesetters and shrugged off a late challenge from Canada’s Horse of the Year at two Uncaptured, and eventual King’s Bishop Stakes (G1) winner Capo Bastone to win the 1 1/8-mile test by a comfortable 1 ½ lengths.

  • The sharp Spiral score vaulted Sam Herzberg’s Black Onyx onto the Triple Crown trail and stamped him a leading contender for the 2013 Kentucky Derby. Jockey Joe Bravo commented on Black Onyx, “he has got so much heart…and is such a warrior.” Black Onyx was versatile, winning on traditional dirt, turf and synthetic. He broke his maiden going one mile on the dirt at Aqueduct and won at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Gulfstream Park before winning the Spiral over Turfway’s synthetic surface. “He proved he’s a multi-talented horse, ” trainer Kelly Breen said after the Spiral Stakes victory, “if there was a race on cobblestone, he would win that too!”

  • Black Onyx is Florida’s only son of Rock Hard Ten at stud, and he hails from the female family of Desert Stormer, who defeated males in the 1995 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), and Matriarch Stakes (G1) winner Better Lucky. Kalahari Cat, the dam of Black Onyx, is a half-sister to stakes winner and graded stakes-placed Desert Gold, who produced English champion White Moonstone.

  • “Jet black and 16.3 hands, he is a striking horse. There’s no doubt in my mind that Florida breeders will fall for him just as we did,” said Richard Haisfield.
