Allan Monat

I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. After attending college for two years, I decided to go to a Jockey school I read about in the Chicago Sun Times, Rex Ellsworth Jockey School. I stayed there for about 1 - 1 1/2 years, and came back to Chicago working as an exercise rider. I started riding races as a Jockey in 1974 and due to injuries, I retired in 1985, winning the last race I rode in.
I now live on a 20-acre horse farm in South Carolina wit my wife, Becky and 2 daughters. Our farm includes eight horses, two miniature ponies, a miniature donkey, nine chickens, five dogs and a cat. I have been working as a Steward at the Aiken Time Trials and the Steeplechase races in South Carolina, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia for the last five years.
A partial list of appointments in my racing career:
2009-2014: Appointment by Governor Quinn as a Commissioner to serve on
the Illinois Racing Board to regulate the rules of racing for the
state of Illinois.
2014-2015: Rider and Driver Welfare and Safety Committee.
